GRAND RAPIDS’ POET LAUREATE, LINDA NEMEC FOSTER, READS TO A CAPTIVE AUDIENCE
Poet, Linda Nemec Foster, ushered in the first week of spring at the library, on Saturday, March 17, 2010. The Grand Rapids Poet Laureate (2003 – 2005), read her poetry to an entrance audience. All emotions were awakened by her collections of poetry including, Amber Necklace from Gdansk (Finalist for the Ohio Book Award in Poetry), Listen to the Landscape (Short-listed for the Michigan Notable Book Award), and her new book Talking Diamonds.
A lively discussion followed the poetry readings. Artists present in the audience shared how paintings and poetry can be exhibited together to enhance their meaning. Her words of wisdom to beginning poets were “Never ever give up. Continue writing what you want to express, not what someone else thinks you should write.”
Ms. Foster’s poems have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies throughout the country. They have been translated in Europe, exhibited in museums and galleries and produced for stage.
